Our People
Immaculate Nilani Jeyakumar
Immaculate is a stage 4 head and neck cancer survivor, diagnosed in 2023 and treated with radical surgery and reconstruction, followed by 6 weeks of radiotherapy. She continues to receive ongoing care at the Royal Surrey Hospital. Grateful for the extraordinary skill of her surgeons and the second chance at life she has been given, Immaculate has embraced a new outlook where every moment feels precious.
Cancer may have left her with long-term side effects, but it has also deepened her purpose. She finds joy in service, volunteering, and sharing her journey with others through cancer support groups, patient outcome surveys and speaking at hospital education events and organising taster sessions of therapies at the Second Chance H&N Cancer group. Her story highlights both the challenges and the possibilities of living fully beyond cancer.
Immaculate’s career has spanned roles in the NHS, where she recruited and placed volunteers, and with a local authority in records management – both of which gave her great fulfillment. Away from volunteering now, she treasures life with her husband Joseph and their two children, Chris & Christena and their families, who remain her greatest source of strength and inspiration. Together with Joseph, they raised their two children and are blessed with five grandchildren who never miss a daily call – bringing immense joy and strength each day. Guided by her faith, and supported by practices such as Qi Gong, breathwork, yoga, and reflexology, Immaculate embraces each day with gratitude.
