Obituary: Karsten Schubert
We were very sad to learn that Karsten Schubert, renowned art dealer and a great friend of Oracle Cancer Trust has died aged 57. Everyone here at Oracle Cancer Trust sends our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
Karsten, a German-born gallerist and publisher was a key figure in the London art world for more than 30 years. He was moved to support Oracle’s work after his own diagnosis of a rare form of thyroid cancer in 2015. Following his surgery, he moved into a suite at Claridge’s in London to recover and his book, “Room 225-6: a Novel” is the fictionalised account of his subsequent three-week recuperation at the hotel.
With his energetic fundraising, Karsten was able to establish “The Karsten Schubert Robotic Surgery Research Fellowship” with Oracle Cancer Trust. As a result, he was able to jointly fund some pioneering robotic surgery research, being led by Prof Vin Paleri. The work taking place both at The Royal Marsden Hospital and other centres around the UK is a fitting legacy to a very special man. He will be greatly missed.
