This September, two incredible supporters took to the streets of Newcastle for the Great North Run, the world's largest half marathon, and we couldn't be prouder of them both.
Beth Robinson Scales completed the 13.1-mile route in searing heat, raising over £3,800 for Oracle. Beth ran in honour of her husband Steve, following his recurrence, and spoke movingly about how running has become an unexpected source of strength for her own mental health, and how friends Becca, Vicky and Jade helped her find her way back out into the world during a difficult time. As Beth put it: "... knowing what that money could do for Oracle honestly means the world."
Richard Fletcher, three years on from his own head and neck cancer diagnosis, also took on the Great North Run, once again proudly wearing his Oracle vest to help raise awareness with every mile. Despite hitting a tough patch at mile nine, Fletch crossed the finish line for the sixth time, a milestone he doesn't take for granted. As he shared: "Three years after my diagnosis, I can still run it, and I always will."
Both Beth and Fletch remind us that support for Oracle comes in many forms, whether it's fundraising, raising awareness, or simply showing what life after diagnosis can look like. We are enormously grateful to them both.
