Theatre Meets Healthcare: Breaking Barriers in Cancer Conversations

In Leicester, theatre is transforming how Black communities talk about cancer. Oracle Head & Neck Cancer UK, alongside Theatre Sans Frontières, is using interactive Forum Theatre to tackle stigma, improve healthcare conversations, and break down cultural barriers.

Actors bring real-life cancer diagnosis experiences to the stage – but the audience isn’t just watching. They step in, suggest changes, and even take on roles, making it a powerful, immersive experience for patients, families, and healthcare professionals.

The Next Step: Taking the Message Further

As part of our #headneckcheck campaign, we’re proud to share a powerful new video that brings our mission to life. Watch below to find out more about why early cancer detection is crucial within Black communities, and why addressing cultural stigma, barriers to healthcare, and fostering open conversations are so important.

What is #headneckcheck?

The #headneckcheck campaign is a national movement dedicated to raising awareness about the early signs of head and neck cancer. It’s a 2 minute self-check that could save your life.

With workshops for young people and a final event showcasing key insights, this project is more than a performance. By blending storytelling with lived experience, it’s paving the way for better, more inclusive healthcare conversations.

Real stories. Real impact. Real change.
