10th Annual National Head and Neck oncology meeting
Friday 15th September saw the 10th annual National Head and Neck Oncology meeting take place in York, chaired by our very own Trustee Dr Mehmet Sen. The focus of this annual meeting is on recent advances, impact on routine NHS practitioners and changes affecting Head and Neck Oncology. This is complimentary to other UK Head and Neck meetings and an opportunity for knowledge sharing amongst multidisciplinary team members to improve patient care within NHS practice.
Dr Mehmet Sen:
“In 2023 we observed many challenges within healthcare including increasing numbers of patients awaiting treatment, underfunding of health care needs, pay disputes and strikes, disbanding of NCRI and uncertainties for head and neck research in the future. This conference however demonstrated the strength and spirit of collaboration within the UK Head and Neck Cancer community, as evidenced by an excellent turnout and colleagues from most national centres. Areas of variance were identified and opportunities to align using agreed upon evidence-based approaches were shared. New seminal trial data was shared for the first time and opportunities for new trials discussed.”
Dr Sen also announced the news that this annual event will become a key flagship event for Oracle Cancer Trust. Oracle will ensure the event continues with high levels of governance and sustainability going forward, providing opportunity for information sharing and collaboration within this healthcare community.
Tamara Kahn, CEO Oracle Cancer Trust:
“This meeting really demonstrates the importance of information sharing and discussion amongst oncology and multidisciplinary colleagues from across the UK. Topics such as Systemic Therapies and Immunotherapies, Radiotherapy case studies, Sinonasal surgery and options were discussed amongst many others. This will be a core Oracle educational event in 2024 and we look forward to working with the Steering Committee, building on their success to date.”
