Data from the National Disease Registration Service on HPV associated and HPV independent oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma
The Get Data Out Programme from the National Disease Registration Service (NDRS), part of NHS England, has published statistics on incidence, routes to diagnosis and treatment for patients diagnosed with oropharyngeal cancer in England by human papillomavirus (HPV) status. To our knowledge this is the first time data on oropharyngeal cancer by HPV status has been published in England which will significantly contribute to the increase in knowledge and understanding of the epidemiology and clinical management of this disease.
The data covers patients diagnosed with oropharyngeal cancer in England between 2019 and 2022 with HPV status being recorded for around 75% of patients. The data is available by stage at diagnosis, age, and gender, with incidence data also presented by broad ethnicity group, and deprivation quintile. Survival data is planned for publication later this year. The data are available in an open format for anyone to access and use. You can find the data on the GDO dashboard here: https://nhsd-ndrs.shinyapps.io/get_data_out/.
Charlotte Eversfield and Natalia Petersen from NDRS, are presenting on this data at the Oracle Head and Neck Cancer UK Research & Impact Evening on Monday 28th April. Details of the event can be found here
