Sophie runs in memory of her dear papa
Sophie Rhys-Evans was delighted to run the London Landmarks Half Marathon and raise a remarkable £1,440, all in memory of her late father, Peter Rhys-Evans, the esteemed founder of Oracle Cancer Trust. It was testament to her enormous pride in her fathers’ achievements and dedication to the Head and Neck Cancer Community.
For Sophie, Oracle Cancer Trust has always been more than just a charity; it's been a cornerstone of her life, with a childhood enriched by assisting at events like the Glory of Christmas concert. Speaking fondly of her father's legacy and the charity's impact, Sophie shares, "Oracle was founded by my father, and it has been a centrepiece of my family life since I was young. Many patients helped by Oracle have become like family. I couldn’t think of a more suitable way to honour my father’s legacy than to fundraise for the Peter Rhys-Evans Memorial Fund, in recognition of his work and the inspiring work the charity does."
Choosing the London Landmarks Half Marathon wasn't merely about the physical challenge. For Sophie, who has called London home for nearly two years and began her career as a doctor in the bustling city, it was a symbolic celebration of her journey. "I wanted to celebrate this city and all the opportunities it has given me by running through the iconic sites," she shares.
However, the true essence of Sophie's journey lies not just in the miles she ran, but in the love and support that surrounded her. Highlighting the most cherished moments of her half marathon experience, she reflects, "My family and friends coming to support me was definitely the most special part of the day. I am so grateful to everyone who donated to my fundraising efforts, and I am incredibly proud of the amount we have raised for such a worthy cause."
Sophie's experiences, like those of so many others, are a poignant reminder of celebration and remembrance.
